Twenty years … TWENTY YEARS since we graduated from Lafayette High School! When the Class of 1997 first walked in to LHS in the Fall of 1993, all of this was true:

  • “Can’t Help Falling in Love” by UB40 was the #1 song on the radio
  • “The Fugitive” starring Harrison Ford, Tommy Lee Jones & Sela Ward was the #1 movie
  • Bill Clinton had just been elected President of the United States
  • A gallon of regular unleaded gasoline cost $1.16
  • A movie ticket set you back about $4.25
  • The Pentium Processor and Windows NT 3.1 had just been released

When we left Lafayette High School, we’d lost several classmates. Classmates lost family members. Some carried struggles that no one could even imagine, but everyone made a point to attend the final day of school to throw all that paper in the air. And, at that time:

  • “MMMBop” by Hanson had just edged out “Hypnotize” by The Notorious BIG for the #1 spot
  • The Fifth Element starring Milla Jovovich & Bruce Willis was the #1 movie (quickly replaced by “The Lost World: Jurassic Park”)
  • Bill Clinton was still the President
  • A gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was $1.22
  • A movie ticket cost $4.50

Also in 1997, Princess Diana was killed in a car crash, Mike Tyson was suspended from boxing after biting Evander Holyfield’s ear, the first sheep (Dolly) was cloned, and Microsoft released Internet Explorer 4.

Twenty years later, it’s hard to imagine how we lived without texting, smart phones, GPS, and Facebook! And, here we are – online – preparing for our 20-year reunion. It’ll be a chance for you to connect in real life with people you haven’t seen in a while.

Complete the classmate questionnaire and let us know how you want to help. We look forward to seeing you again on October 6th and 7th!
